First Night

First Night is a fourteen year old tradition held early in the Spring Semester as a celebration for the first-year class to mark the successful completion of their first semester and the beginning of their life-long journey as Bucknellians. In preparation for the event, each first-year class selects class colors and a motto and designs a class crest incorporating these symbols. In addition, each residence hall floor decorates two pages with photos, drawings, and quotes to reflect their first semester at Bucknell. SUMMER UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES AT NIST

Another great opportunity we saw in the Message Center that we wanted to make sure you didn’t miss: The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is now accepting applications for the 2014 Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SURF) programs at its Gaithersburg, MD, and Boulder, CO campuses. These programs provide research opportunities for undergraduate students to work with internationally known NIST scientists and gain exposure to cutting-edge research. The SURF programs are supported by the National Science Foundation, and each summer, students spend about 11 weeks at one of the NIST sites, meeting peers and gaining valuable hands-on research experience.
