Internship & Job Fair

Job Internship FairHopefully you’ve had a relaxing break and now it’s time to jump back into things – starting with the Internship & Job Fair on Tuesday, January 28th in Gerhard Fieldhouse from 11-2:30 pm.  Whether it is an Internship or a full-time job you are looking for, the Internship & Job Fair is where you should be!

We have several programs to help you get prepared:

1. Attend one of the prep and resume sessions for the Internship & Job Fair on Wed 1/22 at Noon in LC Gallery Theatre (may change due to add/drop period) or Thurs 1/23 at 5pm in LC Gallery Theatre. If you aren’t sure why you should attend let me tell you: you will learn what to expect at the fair, the most effective ways to connect with employers and get a list of the registered employers that includes what they are looking for and what they are offering. We will also go over some resume tips to help prepare you for the fair.

2.  Check out the BRIDGE 101 & Cover Letter workshop on Thurs 1/23 at 12:00 in ELC 217 to learn about those ever elusive (and difficult at times) cover letters and tricks on using the BRIDGE to make sure you are getting the most out of this great tool.

3. Come to RESUMANIA with a PRINTED resume ready to get critiqued one more time. Come by the CDC for walk-in Resume Reviews on Fri 1/24 or Mon 1/27 from 11-3:30 to get help putting those last-minute touches on your resume for the Internship & Job Fair on Tuesday 1/28 (yes, I am repeating myself). You can also pre-make your name tag to save some valuable minutes on fair day.

4. Pre-Fair sessions with PwC and Abercrombie & Fitch are both scheduled for Monday, January 27th in Walls Lounge starting at 6pm, check the BRIDGE calendar for details.

Now on to what you can do to prepare on your own:

1. Research who is coming and identify the companies you want to speak with then…

2. Research those companies using the BRIDGE, LinkedIn, Twitter, Hoover’s, Google…any, all, more, others…
Hint for the BRIDGE: in the top right corner there is an “Employer” tab. Here you can search employers by name or by industry and you will find an overview, company website, see the jobs they may  have posted with us, and/or the contacts we have established in the company. I shouldn’t have to tell you that this is HUGE!

3. Work on your elevator pitch and read up on some of our Networking Tips

4. Get that suit pressed! Not sure what to wear? Check out our tips on Pinterest for Men and Women

On fair day don’t forget to stop by our LinkedIn Photo Booth to get a quick head shot (for free) of you looking all professional for your profile. Not sure what to do next? Check out the ways we can help you with LinkedIn.
