I love that lots of students are finally getting on LinkedIn. I think it’s great. We’ve been posting about LinkedIn for awhile now. You can search the Career Insider for many tips, strategies and prezi’s on how to set up your profile. So I was doing my daily twitter drudge and it’s overwhelming what you can find. I don’t know if it was because it was rainy or what but today Twitter seemed to be particularly jam packed with great information. Jammed. Packed. I won’t share it all with you here, although I would like to, but I did want to highlight one of the coolest things I found today – Classmates on LinkedIn (now called Alumni as of 11/1) I can’t remember my exact trail but somehow I came across The LinkedIn Blog and the post all about this new feature: [...]

It gives advice on searching, understanding degrees of separation, getting recommendations, and using the Jobs & Hiring section of the site. The book concludes with a section on “netiquette” and [...]

Everyday LinkedIn gets more into the game with new and improved features that make the tool easier to use and more functional when applying or searching for jobs. They’ve also started to make a concerted effort toward more student-friendly features with some new additions to the profile section are another step in that direction. Here’s a quick run down of them from the LinkedIn Blog: Projects: Participating in projects shows that you can apply classroom learning to real-world challenges and work effectively in a team. Add compelling research or class projects to your profile – especially those that demonstrate experience [...]

You may be a Facebook pro, but are you on LinkedIn? LinkedIn is for professional networking only – you can use the site to make connections, research companies, find a job, and more. One is geared more towards students who aren’t familiar with LinkedIn (Basics for Students) while the other (which still provides similar, great information) was created for an Alumni Networking event we did this year in Philadelphia (Are You LinkedIn?). Both help you learn the basics and see how easy it is to create a professional profile, find your dream job, and [...]

How do you use social networking in your job search? A recent NACE survey of 2010 graduates indicated that while over 90 percent of respondents have profiles on social networking sites, a much smaller percentage actually use those sites in their job search. Less than 30 percent feel that employers should view their profiles, which is understandable — most people use sites like Facebook for social reasons, and aren’t interested in blurring together their personal and professional lives. However, one piece of the survey was surprising, and I found it particularly alarming: Students using social networking as a job-search resource [...]
