On-Campus Recruiting Starts February 7th

Did you know that several employers come to campus to recruit Bucknellians to work at their companies? If the thought of this makes your blood pressure rise…don’t worry! Here are 5 easy steps to help you stand out and conquer the on-campus recruiting (OCR) process.

1) Accentuate the Positive. Rather than getting stuck on the ways you think you aren’t competitive, focus on what strengths (and you all have them) you bring to the position. The easiest way to do this is to first understand what skills an employer is looking for so…

2) Know the industry. Following what’s going in the industry is critical to setting yourself apart. Not only will it help you better understand the differences between major players, but also establish yourself as someone who is genuinely interested in this line of work. The VAULT is a great jumping off point.

3) Research the Employer. Employers want to hire someone who is excited about working for them. You can’t create this impression well if you don’t know much about the organization. So, hop to it! Scour their website, check the VAULT, Google them, or check out B-Link, and ideally, talk to people who work there. Also, don’t forget about Interviewing Tips every Monday at 5 pm which is your chance to talk to the Manager of OCR and get all the inside tips she knows and hears from employers.

4) It’s not quantity, it’s quality that’s important. Sure, you can’t apply to as many positions if you target each cover letter for the individual industry/job type (with a few sentences specific to the employer), but it is definitely time worth spending.

5) Mind the gap…Know the BRIDGE. Like all technology you may run into a snafu. Don’t let that happen minutes before the deadline (which are always midnight). Stop by the CDC for BRIDGE Quick Questions, daily from 3:00-4:00. Or you can read about more tips on how to use the BRIDGE from some of our old posts like this one or this one.

And, of course, use the CDC! Whether it’s help learning about the industry or employer, cover letter or resume reviews, or setting up a mock interview we are here to help!
