Lunch and Learn!

During the school year it’s really easy to find 101 reasons why you are too busy to stop by the CDC but if you are a student staying in Lewisburg over the summer the excuses run out! And that’s why we are hosting a luncheon. Take advantage of this quiet time on campus to learn more about what Bucknell’s Career Development Center has to offer – we are pretty amazing in my opinion! 😉 But in all seriousness, this is a really great way to get familiar with the Career Center and learn more about the services offered through the […]

These go to eleven!?

Although our very own Commencement speaker, Erik Weihenmayer, didn’t make Vault’s cut we’ll still share  11 Celebrity Commencement Speeches because, well, we like them! From Tom Hanks to Denzel (yeah Fordham!) to both Obama’s and a little Parks & Recreation action in between (Amy Poehler) – this post covers some great advice offered by highly revered people. It will serve you well in life (better than calculus for most of […]

Networking for Introverts

If you know who I am then you know I am not an introvert, but sometimes when I’m uncomfortable or nervous I revert to one. That’s why when I came across this great article on the Simply Hired Blog I had to share it.  Introvert or not, this article offers great advice on, the often elusive term, “networking.” And we all know practice makes perfect so after you read the article practice your skills at one of our summer networking events, happening in select cities. Networking for Introverts By Tess Gellerman For introverts, “networking” is a four letter word. It […]

Become the Bucknell Intern Queen or King!

The Intern Queen, also known as Lauren Berger, came to campus in February of 2010 to give a great talk about – you guessed it – internships! We really loved her talk (you can read about it here) and so when I saw an opportunity for campus ambassadors I thought it was worthy of sharing. On top of working for someone who is young and fun this is also a great resume builder and chance to gain some valuable experience from your dorm! So I ask you, do you wanna be an Intern Queen Campus Ambassador? Here’s what Laurent posted […]

Surviving the First Day of Your Internship

So far we’ve heard that a lot of you have some pretty amazing summer plans; be it jobs, internships or amazing volunteer opportunities. We know you are in China and the Philippines, on Capitol Hill and Wall Street, at Groupon and PostSecret, saving bays in New Jersey and working for LGBT rights in Estonia…all in all pretty impressive. Knowing all this, when I came across an article from Jobacle.com about surviving your first day I wanted to pass it along – The first day of a job can be stressful for anyone, even a new employee that has been working […]

Student Perspective: Summer without an Internship?

By Katrina Hefele ’13 For those of you who don’t have internships this summer…don’t freak out, it’s not the end of the world! However, that doesn’t mean that you can just sit on your couch watching cartoons all day long; take charge of your life and be productive! Are you interested in becoming a vet? Volunteer at a local animal hospital. Maybe your interests lay in the arts? Then you could volunteer at a local museum. The most important thing to do with your summer is to learn, whether you are being paid or not.  Explore your interests;  say you […]

Missy Gutkowski – a person of the year!

It must have been the article profiling Missy that made this week’s Bucknellian super hot, so hot that it made issues fly off the stands. So fast that it concerned The Bucknellian staff. They posted on Facebook: Most of the copies of our print edition for this week have gone missing, and we suspect that they were stolen. We are currently investigating, but I don’t know when or if more copies will become available.x Now, we know that Bucknell students would never do something like this. Clearly it must have been that everyone wanted to read about Missy. And who […]

Art History Majors – Pay Attention!

Always wonder what you can do with your major? Well…maybe you can become the next Queen of England! It’s the Royal Wedding day and you can bet that this office full of women was truly excited this morning, some more than others of course. As usual I just had to find a way to squeeze career advice in and here’s my advise: never let your major limit what you do! Kate and Prince William were both Art History majors and now will become new figureheads in a long line of obsolete royalty and they will, no doubt, have paintings commissioned […]
