CDC Intern Tip: Get to know Lynda!

Who’s Lynda? Our CDC Intern Carolyn Wan ’17 tells all…

With only a few weeks left in the semester, it’s never too late to develop technical and creative skills or learn career tools for specific career paths! One way Bucknell students can do this is be using Lynda* – an online learning platform that helps anyone learn business, software, technology and creative skills to achieve personal and professional goals.

This online learning platform is designed for everyone – regardless of age or interest – to develop skills and knowledge in a specific industry or career tool. These videos encompass both technical and social science-related fields, such as:

    • Excel & Powerpoint
    • Software & Programming (HTML, Python, etc …)
    • Media/Advertising Videos
    • Business & Marketing
    • Design (Photoshop, InDesign, Adobe, Corel, etc…)
    • Photography

There are two types of videos: courses, which are long videos (+2hrs) with multiple categories and detailed information, and quick videos, which are short videos (~4min) with basic information and quick tips. By using the filter function, Lynda allows you to narrow down the search options for your specific preferences.

Overall, Lynda is a great tool for Bucknell students because it:

  • Provides advice and skills for every aspect of the job process, including writing a resume; writing a cover letter, email etiquette, applying online, improving an elevator pitch, accepting/declining job offers, etc…
  • Applies to many Bucknell courses, such as programming (engineer students),  excel (finance students), music (accapella groups), education (student majoring in k-12 education), and online web-design (students in newspaper or media-related courses)
