Earth Day Peer Picks: CIRENA & Xanterra Parks

vladJust in time for Earth Day this coming Wednesday this week’s peer picks from Vladimir ’16 will be exploring internship options for sustainability oriented students who are looking for a challenging and rewarding experience.

1. CIRENAS (Centro de Investigaciones de Recursos Naturales y Sociales)

2. Xanterra Parks

The first opportunity involves some traveling to the nation of Costa Rica, known for its progressive environmental policies. By 2021 Costa Rica is planning to become the first carbon-neutral country. The internship is with CIRENAS (Centro de Investigaciones de Recursos Naturales y Sociales), who is seeking interns to help their permaculture program on their new campus. You will be an active stakeholder in determining CIRENAS’ future and making it as self-sufficient as possible through identifying ways in which their systems can be adopted in the local community to ensure a sustainable future for the region. Alongside the permaculture team you will work on earthworks projects, water management, planting, landscaping, waste treatment and with entrepreneurial projects and business incubation. Some of the highlights of interning at CIRENAS are: living and working abroad, improving your Spanish, learning in an experiential setting. Interns are paid $600 to cover room, board and transportation costs. You can submit your resume to this application through the BRIDGE by May 11th.

A blend between the hospitality industry and natural environment preservation, Xanterra Parks is a company that administers a variety of national and state parks as well as resorts, cruises and tours. Their commitment to customers is that they offer a premium hospitality experience while staying committed to sustainability principles and making sure that future generations have the same privilege of enjoying these special places. One of the internship opportunities available at Xanterra is in the Yellowstone National Park Lodges, the largest concessionaire in Yellowstone park. During the internship you will gain familiarity with operations at a high volume resort property and gain hands on experience in the hospitality and support industry. Dormitory housing is typically available as well as discounts on food and transportation to and from work. You can apply to the internship by submitting your resume on the BRIDGE by May 1st and on the company website.
