Top Four Features of Bucknell Alumni App We Love

When the Alumni Relations office introduced EverTrue to the alumni community it was immediately available to students as well. This caught the attention of EverTrue and our Marketing and Social Media Manager Megan Wolleben was asked to contribute to their blog on how Bucknell empowers students to use the app [find the post here]. The space on the EverTrue blog was limited so we wanted to share the full list of features that we love here. Maybe you can try some of them out over Spring Break?! 🙂

Top Features in Alumni App from Megan Wolleben

  1. Filters: EverTrue worked with Bucknell to help us create some great filters that our alumni and students like to search on and that you don’t typically see: like Greek life, sports, and career volunteer (which is our way of noting willingness to offer career advice). Of course you can find ways to search some of these fields in LinkedIn but it’s harder to do and the results aren’t as good. The filters in the app pull information from our massive database that may not be in LinkedIn. Perhaps an alum created a LinkedIn profile 20 years after college and didn’t feel like listing the sport they played or the Greek association they belonged to? Understandable but the information is great for a current student hoping to make connections to learn more about what’s out there after Bucknell. What better place to start than shared organizations?
  2. Map Results: In Lewisburg, PA the “near me now” does not always offer the best results but when you search by a certain location and view the results as a list you’ve got yourself some great information.
  3. LinkedIn Sync: No brainer, it’s like weight lifters drinking muscle milk – it beefs up your results.
  4. Professionals to Know: I only follow this feature after the LinkedIn Sync because you need to have connected your accounts for it to work. Once you have (and it’s easy) you can see suggested alumni based on your LinkedIn profile information. This of course leads us to say “so make sure your profile is up to date and good!” (We offer LinkedIn workshops and profile reviews). What I love is that this brings professionals to you based on current interests. This is a great place to get started in building your network and it takes a lot of the fumbling guesswork out of finding people to connect with. It’s a great spring board to get you into the pool of thousands of alumni out there.

The rundown of features and access to the app, does not come without our biggest piece of advice: Don’t make a mistake that will harm your professional reputation! For more tips on that and to learn more about the app check out this post.
