This week peer picks from Sophie ’16:

Thomas Reuters Paid Internship – Apply by December 1

– Hershey Company Department of Information Services (IS) Internships – Apply by December 1:

1. Application Development Intern/Co-Op

2. IS Infrastructure Intern/Co-Op

For my peer pick this week, I chose to highlight an internship with Thomas Reuters! Thomas Reuters is the leading source of intelligent information for the world’s businesses and professionals, providing customers with competitive advantage. Intelligent information is a unique synthesis of human intelligence, industry expertise and innovative technology that provides decision-makers with the knowledge to act, enabling them to make better decisions faster. Interns will receive formal training before they start work. Every intern will report to a senior editor and be assigned a journalist mentor who will be available to provide advice and guidance. Internships last for 10 weeks and most will begin in early June 2015! Most internships are in Reuters’ New York and Washington bureaus but opportunities may also exist in Toronto, Mexico City and Sao Paulo, as well as in other U.S. offices. If you are interested in journalism, are at least two years into Bucknell, and seek to learn at the world’s largest international multimedia news provider, do not forget to apply to this wonderful, PAID opportunity by Monday, December 1st on the BRIDGE!

For my second peer pick, I chose a company closer to our Bucknell home! The Hershey Company’s Information Services (IS) Department is offering an internship in Hershey, Pennsylvania (naturally!). The Information Services Department serves as a catalyst for achieving the corporation’s strategic objectives. Seeing as Hershey continues to push the boundaries in insights and innovation by leveraging technology, it makes sense that its goal is to integrate students with our knowledgeable and successful teams in order to maintain a fresh perspective on ever-changing technologies! If you choose to intern with Hershey, you will participate in team projects that meet business initiatives, develop your skills and expand abilities by working with new systems and software work with your own personal mentor to take advantage of unique opportunities, and experience what it is like to work for Fortune 500 company! More explicitly, you will develop interactive web applications leveraging the latest frameworks and API’s, work with our users to develop engaging mobile applications on the iOS platform, architect and deliver web services that will become the backbone to all our applications, drive the business forward by working on enterprise development projects that utilize Salesforce and SAP, provide information to decision-makers using the latest business intelligence tools, and leverage the latest big-data solutions to deliver insights that help drive decisions across the enterprise! Some perks to working here are that you can take classes to further familiarize yourself with the company’s business, take tours to see how Hershey’s IS integrates with daily operations, partake in team-building activities, and network with technology leaders. So, if you are working toward a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, or related field and preferably have higher than a 3.0 GPA – do not forget to apply on the BRIDGE by Monday, December 1st as well!
