This week peer picks from Sophie ’16:

 –IRTS Foundation Summer Fellowship Program

For my peer pick this week, I chose to focus on International Radio and Television Society Foundation, Inc.’s (IRTS Foudnation) paid Summer Fellowship Program in New York, New York from May 31st – August 1st, 2015. This program is the most notable student out-reach effort of IRTS, teaches up-and-coming communicators the realities of the business world through an expense-paid fellowship, which includes practical experience and career-planning advice. In the first week, you will be exposed to broadcasting, cable, advertising, and interactive media. You will also get to question industry professionals at panels, lectures, and group discussions. Moreover, there will be related field trips, networking, and interviewing tips at your disposal when you attend industry social functions. All majors are encouraged to apply! If you see yourself flourishing in this program, do not forget to apply on the BRIDGE as well as through the IRTS Foundation itself by Sunday, November 2nd!

For my second peer pick, I chose the infamous Washington Post! For you juniors, seniors, or graduate students who have had at least one professional news media job or internship, this could be your foot in the door. The application involves an application, an autobiographical essay of at least 500 words, a resume, two letters of recommendation, and work samples depending on what you want to pursue later in life. The Bridge offers different criteria for reporters, visual journalists, developer-journalists, copy editors, multi-platform producers, news designers, features designers, information designers, digital designers, or even social media producers. If you are interested in pursuing a career in this very dynamic field, definitely apply by Friday, November 7th!
