1.  Yellowstone National Park Lodges

2. Smithsonian American Art Museum

This week, I wanted to highlight an internship focused on the outdoors, namely for Yellowstone National Park Lodges. The program seeks to help you gain familiarity with operations at a high volume resort property, gain hands on experience in the hospitality and support industry, have access to management operating in the nation’s first national park, have access to management training opportunities from the training course catalog, and network with members of the staff and learn about their roles. Your overall responsibilities will involve participating in official orientation and on-site training, attending standard training sessions to learn the rules and regulations associated with interns selected position, networking with members of the staff and learn about their roles, and having access to management training opportunities from the training course catalog. If this sounds interesting to you, do not forget to apply online at www.yellowstonejobs.com in addition to applying on the BRIDGE by Saturday, March 1st!

I chose my second peer pick in a biased manner for those of you art lovers. I am local to the Washington, D.C. area and am a big fan of the Smithsonian American Art Museum. This summer, the museum is offering a program that does not require previous museum experience. Instead of moving from office to office, interns in the Summer Program concentrate on one aspect of museum work that matches the individual’s interests and career goals. The program runs for eight weeks from the beginning of June through the beginning of August. Small stipends may be awarded to assist in summer housing costs. The number and value of stipends vary yearly. Thank goodness for the stipend, as the D.C. area has a lot to offer in terms of cultural activities, easy commuting, and “good eats”! If I have convinced you to apply, please note that there is no application form for these programs. To apply, candidates must submit the following items: a statement of purpose expressing personal career goals in the museum field, what skills he or she hopes to acquire, and why the Smithsonian American Art Museum has been chosen as a learning center, a resume of relevant education and work experience, three letters of recommendation (academic and/or professional), and transcripts from all schools attended above high school level. Do not forget to apply on the BRIDGE as well by Saturday, March 1st!
