This weeks picks from internships and jobs listed on the BRIDGE by Sophie Hattery ’16, CDC Marketing and Social Media Specialist: Working for the CDC!

This week, I chose write about a position very near and dear to my heart: being a peer and specialist in the Career Development Center. At the CDC, you will not only have first-hand access to which recruiters will be on campus, to the knowledge of when applications are due, but also to counselors who are willing to provide you with professional advice. The work environment is very family-oriented. The staff and peers all coexist well and are always willing to help if you have any questions. Your primary tasks involve working at the desk, answering the phone, scheduling appointments, reading resumes and cover letters, and entering data into Excel spreadsheets or on the BRIDGE. As the Marketing and Social Media Specialist, I personally get the opportunity to write these peer picks, wherein I select a couple interesting internships to highlight on a bi-weekly basis. I also get to employ my creative side by making posters promoting our services, clever memes to brighten up the office, and help handle Bucknell’s social media accounts to bring awareness to various networking events. I would highly recommend applying to be a peer and specialist in the CDC. Doing so not only keeps you on top of your game in terms of determining a career, but it also teaches you time management. Many paid on-campus jobs offer flexible hours; however, at the CDC it is much easier to switch hours with co-workers or work in around your class schedule. This job has been one of the most rewarding experiences that I have had thus far during my time at Bucknell, and I hope that you choose to apply on the BRIDGE by February 28th!
