Sophie Hattery '16

Sophie Hattery ’16

Sophie Hattery ’16, CDC Marketing and Social Media Specialist, BRIDGE Peer Pick of the Week:
1. NY Union Internship
2. Goldman Sachs “GS: Inside Look”

My first peer pick calls for any sophomore, junior, or senior who has a passion for social justice. The Bridge brings you the NY Union Semester paid internship program for the spring 2014 semester. The internship involves a 32 hour per week, 15 week program at a New York City labor union or labor affiliated-organization. Participants will not only get the opportunity to enjoy the city atmosphere, but will have the chance to take labor studies courses at the Murphy Institute for Worker Education and Labor Studies at the City University of New York with in-state tuition and a scholarship! Moreover, you are provided with a stipend and monthly UNLIMITED transit allowance. A certificate in Labor Studies from CUNY’s School of Professional Studies along with 16 undergraduate or 12 graduate credits in conjunction with all the networking opportunities will set an intern up for becoming union or community organizers, researchers, labor lawyers or administrators at not-for-profit organizations. If that is a job you could find yourself doing and you have a GPA higher than 2.50, you should definitely apply to this program by November 18th on the BRIDGE!

As for my second peer pick, Goldman Sachs is offering a program called, “GS: Inside Look” to any sophomores, juniors, or seniors that are interested in working for a leading global investment banking, securities and investment management firm that provides a wide range of financial services to a substantial and diversified client base that includes corporations, financial institutions, governments and high-net-worth individuals. The “GS: Inside Look” program involves virtual information sessions and recruiting effort. If you are accepted, you can learn about Goldman Sachs in general, what they do and their specific, divisional career opportunities. Furthermore, there will be topical training sessions to enhance your resume writing, interview and self-promotion skills (kind of like at the CDC but more tailored to those of you who are interested in finance!). You also will be able to participate in a formal interview process at the Goldman Sachs office location of your preference for an internship in the future.

To apply, complete an application at goldmansachs.com/careers by 11:59pm EST by November 18, 2013!
