What NOT to Do While Networking on LinkedIn

I love that lots of students are finally getting on LinkedIn. I think it’s great. We’ve been posting about LinkedIn for awhile now. You can search the Career Insider for many tips, strategies and prezi’s on how to set up your profile. And normally I like to take a positive tone and talk about what to do, how to use, etc but when I came across this article posted on youtern‘s The Savvy Intern blog I just had to share because it is filled with GREAT advice and mistakes so I post it here for you to read as a learning experience …

So now that we’ve taught you how to become a LinkedIn Superhero let’s talk about what NOT to do…

The biggest thing that I see (and Savvy Intern agrees) is the “Can you endorse me?” issue. Savvy Intern explains:

Lots of us are open networkers, meeting new folks and connecting with them for mutual networking purposes.  I’m here to help you network and will do what I can, but if I’ve never met you and have zero interaction with you yet, please don’t expect me to write a LinkedIn recommendation for you.  I’d like to think that my endorsement means a little bit more than that!
