Build Your Own Internship

For the second time in two days I am dating myself by my comments but I’ll do it anyway. Have you ever heard of the “Choose Your Own Adventure” books? Well they were great because throughout the book you could choose what the main character does and you could read the books over and over again, each time getting a new story. So they were creative and economical!

In a similar vein the Wall Street Journal features an article today entitled “How to Create Your Own Summer Internship.” The article, subtitled “Creating Internships Out of Thin Air,” really caught my eye for several reasons. The first being that sometimes going to school in Central PA makes you have to think creatively about how to do something that may not be obvious. For instance, many students think summer is the only time they could possibly have an internship, but if summer doesn’t work for you there are ways to get creative to get an internship during the school year. To that point, the second reason this article caught my eye, is that the first student they profile is in Central PA!

So without further ado here is the article for your reading pleasure.

And remember that the CDC is open throughout the summer if you need help or have questions. You can call (570-577-2839) or email (cdc@bucknell.edu) or, of course, stop in! If this article sparks an interest for something you’d like to pursue during the academic year we are certainly available to help you ascertain your interests and options as well as help you assess your ideas and get creative. So what will it be? Will you choose your own adventure? Or let someone else define it?
