What is OCR?

On-Campus Recruiting, also known as OCR, provides Bucknell students the opportunity to interview with employers who visit the Career Center during the Fall and Spring semesters. Full-time entry-level jobs and summer internships, primarily in business and technical fields, are offered through the OCR program. OCR interviews occur from mid September through mid November for the Fall semester and late January through mid April for the Spring semester. Resume submission deadlines can vary but are typically every Monday night by 11:59 p.m. but it doesn’t hurt to check the BRIDGE often! You’ll find OCR listings on the BRIDGE. It always helps […]

Suit Up!

Business? Casual? Business Casual? It’s a fuzzy world out there when it comes to jobs and attire but when you are dressing for an interview or a job fair one thing is clear – Suiting Up is always the best idea. We’ve heard from many employers on what outfits make the best impression and it is always a suit. You don’t want to be remembered by an employer for what you wore so check out this quick review of the basics. 7 Things You Shoud Say in an Interview

I came across this great article today from the Hire A Maverick blog and what I really liked about it is there was finally advice on what TO do not what NOT to do. Sometimes I feel that career advice can start to seem really negative…all those don’t do this, don’t do thats (which are good to know for sure)…but this article helps simplify the interview process by elaborating on 7 things you should say (or convey) on that next interview. Hope they help and good luck! 1. I am very familiar with what your company does. Letting a prospective […]

Have you ever been unsure about what you want to do after you graduate? I’m sure a ton of us have. Michelle Gezo graduated in 2004 from Bucknell University as a Management Major and is now at Deloitte in San Francisco.

Always wear pants, know where you are, tell all your friends

Last week at the presentation from the Intern Queen, she gave several great pointers and tips regarding interviewing. One of which was about the increasingly popular Skype interview. Here is my take on her tips: Always Wear Pants: This is a good lesson for life in general but we’ll just stick to the reasons why in regards to interviewing. You may think because you are sitting down in front of desk you won’t be able to see your legs but this is not a guarantee so let’s just err on the side of caution and put some pants on. Be […]

Big Brother is Watching

Beware…you are being watched from the moment you walk in to the interview. From the Culture and Manners Institute: A woman approached me after a talk in Oklahoma and said, “I am the receptionist in my office. The hiring manager has asked me to keep an eye on the job candidates in the waiting room and report back to him which ones are talking on their cell phones, checking messages, or texting. Those are the candidates we do not hire.” Avoid using your cell phone or text messaging while sitting in the waiting room before an interview or even a […]

Tips for Phone Interviews

by Peggy Curchack and Kelly Cleary (courtesy of samantha celera via Flickr) Tis the season for many employers to conduct phone interviews for internships and full-time jobs. Phone interviews, and even video interviews (through Skype and more formal videoconferencing equipment), are becoming increasingly popular with employers since they are a great way to conduct first rounds while saving time and money. So, how do you prepare? In many ways, particularly related to the content of the conversation, you should prepare exactly the same way you would for an in person interview. That said, a phone interview does call for some […]

Um…Like…You Should Seriously Hire Me…Ya Know What I’m Sayin’?

When I was in graduate school I had to do a mock interview in front of my entire class. Then the class, as well as my Professor (who had 7 Masters and 2 Ph.D’s –no joke!) critiqued me. As horrifying as this sounds, it was every bit, but it was also amazingly helpful. I think I owe all the jobs I’ve gotten due to that class. While I was doing some research on Mock Interview tips I came across this great post on SUNY Cortland’s Career Services blog and had to share it. On-Campus Recruiting (OCR) starts February 1st, get […]
