Do I have to be on Twitter? No, but you SHOULD BE! Here’s why…

If you want to build your personal brand, establish an online presence, and be in the right place at the right time for your job search, then you have to utilize social media. The big 3 social media sites are LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook. While LinkedIn is focused more fully on business, and Facebook leans toward the social, Twitter lands somewhere in the middle. Nearly 75 million people visited Twitter in January 2010. Twitter relies on “tweets,” which are posts of 140 characters or less. They’re short, but frequent. Life moves fast on Twitter. But then, the world moves fast […]

What Not to Wear to Work this Summer

The New Power Suit for Summer By CHRISTINA BINKLEY for the Wall Street Journal As Temperatures Heat Up, Conveying Power and Authority at Work Without Breaking a Sweat It’s summer, and the fever is spreading: T-shirts, Capri pants, sundresses and shorts are appearing in offices all over the country. But it’s equally difficult to maintain an aura of authority when you’re wearing a hot-pink golf shirt. When executives drop blazers, ties, and dress shoes, they are eliminating important clues to rank and […]

In your job search, don’t take the ‘social’ out of ‘social networking’

How do you use social networking in your job search? A recent NACE survey of 2010 graduates indicated that while over 90 percent of respondents have profiles on social networking sites, a much smaller percentage actually use those sites in their job search. However, one piece of the survey was surprising, and I found it particularly alarming: Students using social networking as a job-search resource […]
