This weeks peer picks from Sophie Hattery ’16:
1 Yelp Account Executive
2 PennEnvironment Campaign Organizer
This week, I came across a fantastic opportunity for those of you who seek to live in San Francisco, Phoenix, Chicago, or New York after graduation: becoming a Yelp Account Executive. Yelp has helped connect people with great local businesses and changed the way consumers make buying decisions by means of word of mouth online. If you become a Yelp Account Executive, you will help influence how people make buying decisions from finding a dentist to where they’re having dinner tonight. Yelp’s fast-paced sales team has an infectiously positive attitude and drive to win. If you’re looking for a career (not a job), a company that’s invested in your personal development, a solid compensation package, and great training, you’ve come to the right place. You will be responsible for utilizing online and offline sources to cultivate new leads and develop and maintain your pipeline, make a high volume of daily outbound sales calls to business owners across all verticals, drive the full sales cycle: make introductory calls, set appointments, qualify prospects, make presentations, recommend and close advertising packages. If this sounds like something you could see yourself doing, do not forget to apply on the Bridge by November 18th!
For my second peer pick, I chose to highlight PennEnvironment, a grassroots organization that confronts tough environmental problems such as global warming and fracking. PennEnvironment is offering a two-year Campaign Organizer program for recent college graduates seeking to tackle Pennsylvania’s toughest environmental problems. The program partnering staff with experienced environmental advocates and organizers to build the organizational power, such as the funds, the membership, and the activist base, that it takes to keep all of this critical work going for the long haul. You will be responsible for tasks such as writing and helping pass a Philadelphia city council resolution on solar power, organizing press releases for multiple hard-hitting reports on power plant pollution, building powerful coalitions of hundreds of academics, health professionals, elected officials and more, organizing news events and rallies, fundraising and building the organization through canvassing, and even meeting with elected officials in Harrisburg and D.C. to help move climate policy forward. If you are looking to work in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, or sister groups across the nation, have a strong work ethic, outstanding verbal and written communication, proven leadership skills, strong commitment to getting results, and a passion for enacting positive social change, this could be the job for you! Do not forget to apply on the Bridge by November 20th!
