Always wonder what you can do with your major? Well…maybe you can become the next Queen of England! It’s the Royal Wedding day and you can bet that this office full of women was truly excited this morning, some more than others of course. As usual I just had to find a way to squeeze career advice in and here’s my advise: never let your major limit what you do!
Kate and Prince William were both Art History majors and now will become new figureheads in a long line of obsolete royalty and they will, no doubt, have paintings commissioned that will be studied in Art History courses some day on a planet far far away.
But in all seriousness…the possibilities really are endless. Whether you are just choosing a major or have already declared it’s easy to get stuck when it comes to thinking of what you can really do with that particular major. Luckily this is an age-old question and we have a great resource to help called, you guessed it, What Can I do With This Major? It’s like a crystal ball of majors and careers…OK well maybe not a crystal ball but at the very least a Magic 8 Ball. This is just ONE great resource that can help you connect majors and careers, also make sure you check out our Alumni Career Paths.
Although we don’t advice quitting your day job to plan a wedding (Kate stepped down as a website designer and photographer for her parents’ Party Pieces site) we do love the great examples Kate and Prince William are setting for young, motivated, ambitious people in their own rights! (I bet they visited the Career Center at St. Andrews….)
So remember – declaring a major is just one piece of the puzzle and, as my fortune cookie tells me, “the real secret to success is enthusiasm.”
