Half the Sky Foundation would love to have Bucknell students join us for a 2010 summer internship.
Half the Sky was created in order to enrich the lives and enhance the prospects for orphaned children in China. We establish and operate infant nurture and preschool programs, provide personalized learning for older children and offer loving permanent family care, medical care and guidance for children with disabilities. In addition to the volunteer opportunities listed on our web site ( http://www.halfthesky.org/about/careers.php#volunteer ), there are several intern roles that can be assumed based on an individual’s interest and experience. A few desired volunteer/intern positions are as follows:
– Social networking interface to expand HTS’ presence online. Responsibility for creating effective use of online communications to HTS supporters.
– Grant investigation and writing (for Corporate Social Responsibility grants) from large corporations, especially technology firms headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area such as Apple, H/P, Google, Facebook, etc.
– Participation in the development of a Small Business Affiliate program. Create a program that satisfies the needs of HTS and our small business partners.
– Assistance in developing and preparing for large and small fund-raising events throughout North America.
– Assistance in creating a formal assessment program for new fund-raising events; establishing a metrics system to be used in NA and internationally
As you can see, there are numerous opportunities at Half the Sky for a motivated student. Students from any discipline are welcome to apply but I believe that there should be strong interest for students focused on the following degree programs:
a) Early education / child development
b) International relations
c) East Asian Studies / Chinese studies
d) Sociology
e) Psychology
f) Mandarin Chinese language
