Math Alumni Career Panel

Hear advice and perspectives from Bucknell alumni who will examine career paths that utilize the mathematics degree while discussing their work and available opportunities.

The conversation will include a question and answer period and an opportunity to meet (and network with!) the alumni panelists. Light refreshments will be offered.

Panelists:

  • Kim Rich ’14, Associate, Axtria – Ingenious (Recent M.S. from Georgia Tech): Kim is a consultant for Axtria (a data analytics consulting firm). She develops statistical and optimization models to solve real-world business problems for clients. Her path was via a recent MS in industrial engineering from GA Tech, including an internship at Geisinger.
  • Dean Wise ’13, Analyst, Annalect Group: Annalect represents the digital analytics arm of Omnicom, one of the largest marketing conglomerates in the world. Data is rapidly evolving in terms of complexity and scale in the marketing world, and Annalect as a company look to make sense of it all for their clients. Dean finds being an Analyst has been an amazing opportunity to blend quantitative skills with face-to-face client interactions and presentations. Some examples of mathematical practice include using statistics to test different types of digital ads to assess what can drive higher performance, and using programming languages (R, Python, SQL, etc.) to automate data management/processing and analyze large and complicated data sets.
  • Sarah (Thalhamer) Friedman’11, Senior Actuarial Associate, PwC: Sarah obtained a B.S. in Mathematics. Since graduating from Bucknell, Sarah has been working at PwC and is currently a senior associate in the Global Human Resource Solutions group.  At PwC she provides pension and retiree medical actuarial valuation services to a wide range of companies, including law firms and Fortune 500 companies.  Sarah is an associate of Society of Actuaries and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
  • Peter Friedman ’08, Educator, Ridgefield High School: Peter began working at Ridgefield, CT High School immediately following graduation where he has been a math teacher ever since.  In 7+ years in the math department, he has taught Algebra 1, Honors Algebra 2, Geometry (remedial and regular level), College Algebra, Statistics, Honors Calculus, and AP Calculus (AB). In addition to regular teaching duties, Peter is also a member of the National Honor Society Committee, Independent Study Committee, and Gradebook committee. He also coached baseball for the last 3 seasons, regularly writes college recommendation letters, and advises seniors who go on internships after the AP tests in May.
