Clearly MIT knows the importance of Elevator Pitches and I think it’s time you learned too. In 2007 MIT started an Elevator Pitch Contest with entrepreneurs from across the country pitching their ideas to judging panels of venture capitalists looking for the next big thing.
An elevator pitch, so named because it can be delivered in the time span of an elevator ride, is usually a brief overview of an idea for a product, service or project BUT it can also be used at a career fair or a networking event. Elevator pitches are a great way to introduce yourself and show potential employers how YOU are the “next big thing” for them; that they should “invest” in you.
Here are some great resources for you to perfect your elevator speech, just in time for the Employer Expo on Sept. 21st!

If you still think MIT means no sense of humor I hope the videos in this post help illustrate your misconception.
P.S. And if you didn’t already know Working Girl was ahead of the times, an elevator pitch (literally done in an elevator) is a key scene in the movie… 🙂
P.P.S And if you don’t know about This American Life you should check out the episode that inspired this post…it’s a GREAT show!
