Spring Break Strategies

Utilizing your Spring Break for your Internship Search

Spring break is here! After you have taken a little bit of time to relax, use your time way from campus to make strides in your job search.

Network – meet with employers and alumni for informational interviews. Seek out those in areas that interest you and ask about their career path or the industry. Let your friends, family, and neighbors know that you are seeking an internship opportunity.

Follow up – spend some time making those follow-up calls you have been meaning to get to. If you sent materials to an employer and haven’t gotten a response be sure to call to follow up. You never know where the conversation might lead.

Get out there – consider dropping off your resume and cover letter to targeted employers. Take any and all opportunities to chat with anyone you run into – the receptionist, people on the elevator, etc.

Stay proactive – don’t let opportunities that become available over break pass you by! Continue to check the BRIDGE and reach out to employers and networking contacts.

Meet with a counselor – make an appointment with a CDC counselor to talk with us over break if you are staying on campus or for when you return from break. We are happy to talk with you about your internship search and career goals.

What if an Employer Contacts You Over Break?

Just a reminder about Spring Break – if you are planning to not check your email messages because you are travelling or working, you can create an auto-reply message that can inform any potential employers who may be trying to contact you.  To do this on Zimbra Web, select preferences and mail (or mail and then preferences), check the auto-reply box and fill in the message you want recipients to receive.  You can set when this message is to start and end so you can set it up ahead of time and not worry about remembering to turn it off.  Google mail and other email providers usually have this capability as well.
