Decoding Dress Codes

Figuring out what to wear on a daily basis can be challenging. It gets even more difficult when you are dressing for an interview, career fair, internship, first day of work…the list goes on! We hear a lot of you ask about what you should wear (which is great- it shows you’re conscious of having to look professional) but unfortunately there is no single answer to this question. A lot of what to wear is industry based or depends on the situation. For instance for an interview with GE I would wear a suit, no question. But if I were […]

How to sign up for an event on the BRIDGE

We’ve been ending a lot of our posts with “sign up on the BRIDGE,” lately and I just wanted to take a minute to make sure everyone knows how to do it. It may seem difficult at first but once you get the hang of it signing up for an event on the BRIDGE is super easy…especially since if you are signed in to myBucknell you can access the BRIDGE without signing in again. OK so let’s say just got an email about our “Are You LinkedIn?” workshop on October 18th…here’s how you sign up: Sign into the BRIDGE Mouse […]

Help, I Have To Submit A Writing Sample!?

Even though most applications require a cover letter and resume there are a few industries and areas that will also ask that you submit a writing sample. During the interview your spoken communication skills are assessed, but since some positions require various forms of written communication, the company may also want evidence of how well you express yourself in written form – in comes the writing sample. While any employer whose position requires writing skills may want samples, writing samples are more common in publishing, public relations, advertising, media, research, and law. If you are a typical college student, your […]

This Week in the CDC: Oct. 1 – 5

Let’s all take a moment to pat ourselves on the back for making it through September – it’s amazing what can happen in a month: the Open House, countless workshops, Employer Expo, and now Employer Sessions are in full swing, and we keep going. We’d also like to thank all the students who attended the Employer Expo. The feedback from employers and alumni was great – you all looked professional and upheld the great reputation of Bucknellians. For those that took advantage of getting a professional photo for your LinkedIn profile (or any other profile) you should be getting an […]

On Campus Interviewing

It’s post-Expo and we are in full swing with interviews on campus! We talk a lot about tips for interviewing: what to wear, questions to ask, but we also need to discuss another topic: the ethics of interviewing on campus. An interview is a business commitment; once you apply and are granted an interview, it is expected that you will attend. It is our policy that, if you are a no-show for an interview, you will be suspended from the BRIDGE immediately. The Career Development Center does not advocate missing classes for interviews and we recommend that you do your […]
