Peer Picks: Mountbatten Institute & WorldTeach

Photo - HatteryThis week, I approached my peer picks with international travel on the mind! Having gone to Belgium around half a year ago, I can vouch for how beneficial it is to immerse yourself in an unfamiliar culture. Traveling also helps promote the transferable skills of being able to think on your feet and adapt.

Mountbatten Institute – Deadline December 2nd

2 World Teach – Deadline December 13

For those of you who want to go into financial services, the Mountbatten Institute is offering a paid opportunity ($13,000) to work in London for one year with inclusive accommodations in central London and evening education that offers either a Graduate Certificate, a MA, or an MBA. You also will have 28 annual vacation days and fully inclusive health insurance. The 2016 partner companies include JP Morgan Chase, Citibank, UBS Investment Bank, BlackRock, Thomson Reuters, Barclays Capital, Credit Suisse, and RBS. Within these companies, you can go into finance, operations, accounting, human resources, and analytical marketing – no matter your major. One fact that truly stands out is that 47% of this program’s graduates get hired by the same organization back in their home country! 84% employability within 3 months and 96% within 6 months are also appealing statistics. If you have a severe case of wanderlust but still want to dedicate yourself to a financial services career, this could be your dream internship! Apply on the Bridge by December 2nd!

Another awesome international opportunity is to volunteer for eight weeks through WorldTeach! For those of you who do not have time to commit to a semester abroad, this is a great compromise between that and a summer internship. WorldTeach has programs in China, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Micronesia, Morocco, Namibia, Nepal, Poland, and South Africa. You would be responsible for teaching different subjects such as English as a Foreign Language and Computer Technology. Volunteers teach different subjects including English as a Foreign Language and computer technology. The format of the summer program begins with a week-long orientation upon arrival to the host country, followed by six weeks of teaching in the volunteer’s placement school. Volunteers are engaged full time in educational activities and teaching whether in the classroom, at a camp, or in another type of academic setting. The group then returns together to conclude the summer with a week-long reflection and analysis of their work, including travel excursions within the country. If you have a passion for teaching, want to develop a fluency in another language, or just push yourself to try something new – do not forget to apply by December 13th on the Bridge!
