Photo - HatteryThis weeks peer picks from Sophie Hattery ’16:

1 VOICES of September 11th various internships – Deadline October 21st

2 Amazon.com Operations Team Leader job – Deadline October 12th

With Fall Break upon us, ample time will be available to check out some awesome internship opportunities as well as to indulge in some Netflix on the side. I wanted to highlight VOICES of September 11th as a non-profit option! My friend interned there last summer and had nothing short of a rewarding experience. It is located in New Canaan, Connecticut. VOICES helps families heal after tragedy, a vital mission that began after 9/11. Today, the organization continues to address the long-term needs of those impacted by 9/11, while helping communities prepare for, respond to, and recover from other acts of mass violence and disasters. If you pursue an internship here, you can work in the field of your choice. Options range from communications, event planning, IT, and public policy – there is truly something for everyone of every major!  If you choose communications, you will work with the communications team to promote programs and services provided by VOICES, assist in the creation of communications materials, coordinate communications needs of national and local media, contribute to the overall communications plan, provide video production assistance, and participate in planning for special events sponsored by VOICES. As for Event Planning, interns will work with the staff on planning informative events, commemorative services, workshops, and galas. IT will allow interns to develop the website to further enhance its format and to keep the page up to date! Finally, Public Policy will enable interns to complete research on issues relevant to the 9/11 community such as terrorist trials, hearings on Homeland Security, and emergency preparedness. If this sounds like something that would appeal to you, do not forget to apply on the Bridge by October 21st!

As for my second peer pick, I chose a company near and dear to many of our hearts. Amazon has a job opening for an Operations Team Leader. Amazon is on the hunt for recent, high-potential college graduates who are ready to do what it takes to be successful in the Operations field. As a Team Leader, you will have the opportunity to lead and develop your own team of Amazon Associates; your main focus will be motivating, mentoring and coaching your team. The core of the job will be engaging with your team during a shift to ensure that the highest levels of safety, quality, attendance performance and engagement are maintained. To achieve this, the Team Leader will ensure that their team of Associates has all the tools needed to succeed for any task during a shift. Moreover, the Team Leader will communicate policies to associates and act as the primary information source for the team, maintaining compliance and consistency and taking corrective action when needed. Other responsibilities will involve developing performance goals and objectives to achieve customer promise expectations and ensure accuracy and quality, supporting all safety programs and OSHA compliance to ensure a safe work environment for all associates, ensuring procedures are followed for building security and product loss prevention, create, manage and support recognition and communication programs, and also partnering with the management team to establish and maintain quality control standards. If working for one of the biggest online retailers is something you would like to get involved with in the future, do not forget to apply on the Bridge by October 12th!
