LinkedIn Classmates – way cool!

So I was doing my daily twitter drudge and it’s overwhelming what you can find. I don’t know if it was because it was rainy or what but today Twitter seemed to be particularly jam packed with great information. Jammed. Packed. I won’t share it all with you here, although I would like to, but I did want to highlight one of the coolest things I found today – Classmates on LinkedIn (now called Alumni as of 11/1)

I can’t remember my exact trail but somehow I came across The LinkedIn Blog and the post all about this new feature: LinkedIn Classmates – a tool for insights and networking for alumni of colleges and universities around the world.

This new tool, “provides high-level insights about alumni of your school, as well as access to the more detailed professional profiles they’ve shared.” In the post it outlines how Classmates can help you…

  • Explore Possibilities:  See what alumni in your field have accomplished since graduation – and expand your sense of what’s possible for you
  • Make Connections:  Reconnect with old friends, and reach out to alumni in your field for their industry expertise and career opportunities
  • Find Opportunities:  From mentoring to jobs, your fellow alumni often are ready to help
  • Explore alumni career trends
  • Find out what you have in common now

That’s only a brief smattering of what this new feature can help you do. I highly encourage you to check out the post from October 19th to see all about how this new feature works, connects and grows your network; complete with screen grabs.

Now the only issue I have with it is that I have NO IDEA how to find it once I’m in LinkedIn…so I suggest you bookmark this link: http://www.linkedin.com/classmates (now you can use: http://www.linkedin.com/college)
