My Experience:
As the Business intern for Women In Progress I was in charge of running a fair trade certification program, designing a new line for production, and holding computer and book keeping training.
What is the most interesting or important thing you took from your Internship this summer?
Learning about the culture of Ghana was the most important thing that I have learned this summer. It was very interesting working so closely with the women there are learning from them what was important in their culture and the differences between Ghana and the United States. The experience of living in this country and facing day to day challenges of being in a completely different setting than ever before was such an experience that challenged and pushed me, but also one that I took so much away from.
How did the BPIP Fund help make your experience possible?
BPIP helped me offset some of the expenses of airfare and of living in Ghana for the summer.
Why would you recommend the BPIP Fund?
This scholarship provides an opportunity to do an internship that otherwise might not have been possible. In addition, the support that came from BPIP made it easier and made me evaluate/reflect on my experience more than I otherwise would have.
Other comments:
My summer provided me with an unparallel chance to truly emerge myself into another culture. This opportunity allowed me to apply by knowledge to help Ghanaian women create and further their micro-enterprises, while learning more than I could have ever expected from them. This internship has further my interest in non-profit work in West Africa.
Come to one of the many BPIP Info Sessions this semester to learn more!
