Student Perspective: D.C. Career Fair

By Nicole Mott ’10 Event: DC Career Fair When: March 4, 2010 Location: GAO Building, Downtown DC I attended the DC Career Fair a few weeks ago and really picked up a lot of good advice about how to make the most of a career fair. It is extremely important to take advantage of the Career Fairs that Bucknell sets up because you never know the contacts that you will meet or the information you will gain. The people at the Career Fair are interested enough in Bucknell students to take the time out of their day to speak with […]

Student Prespective: Institute for Leadership & Technology Management ’09

I was one of the many students caught between the struggle of gaining both experience and education. Employers were looking for students to be well educated and to have the necessary experience. Well how can you do these two things at once? Inevitably, at some point one needs to give in order for the other to be gained. This is when I heard about, “that great summer program Molly did.” Well this “great summer program” that one of my soccer teammates, Molly, could not stop ranting and raving about was Institute for Leadership & Technology Management (ILTM). She briefly explained […]

Student Perspective: Public Affairs Fieldtrip to National Media, Inc.

Trip: Public Affairs Event—National Media, Inc. Host: Robin Roberts P’10 Alexandria, VA January 12th and 13th, 2010 By: Nicole Mott ‘10 Around the time of finals I found an email from Pam Keiser about a Public Affairs Site Visit Event for two days in the DC area over winter break. Considering I had no job lined up (as of now, hopefully this will change sometime soon) and I would be home in the DC area for winter break, I thought why not? I responded, and within 45 minutes Pam let me know that I was the ninth of ten spots […]

Student Prespective: Externship at Martha Stewart

By Mackenzie Horan ’11 When I applied for externships last October, I truly had no idea what I was in for. The application process was easy, I had time to spare over winter break, it might be nice to add to my résumé… None of my reasons reflected the amazing experience that lay ahead of me. I was assigned a two-day January externship with Matt Gay, the Associate Vice President of Advertising Operations at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia (MSLO). We played phone tag for a week or so before finally making contact, but after our first conversation I remember thinking […]

Student Prespective: Bucknell Alum and CDC Creating a Dream Internship

By Holly Hodges `10 Every little kid has an idea, a dream of what they want to be when they’re older. While I had many possibilities that didn’t quite pan out, being the tooth fairy or performing on Broadway, one interest stuck with me. Growing up in Southern California, surrounded by amusement parks, I always had a strong desire to design rides. It wasn’t until I began my engineering courses at Bucknell that I realized someone actually has that dream job, and it was often engineers. This was when I decided to avidly pursue turning my childhood dream into a […]

SENIORS: It’s time to get LinkedIn

By Nicole Mott ’10 “Connections, connections, connections!” That’s what you will hear pretty often when you ask people how to find a job in the economy today. It’s all about the people you know. But what if you don’t know all right people for finding a job? A social networking website that has been around for a few years now is becoming increasingly more popular: LinkedIn. LinkedIn makes it easier to find these necessary connections we are all struggling to make. It is described as the “professional Facebook” because just like Facebook, it is a great source for networking. However […]

Student Perspective – The BRIDGE: Bursting the Bubble

Bucknell has often been referred to as a bubble. It is a campus filled with brick buildings, athletic facilities and breath-taking views of the Pennsylvania landscape. Within these warm brick buildings are numerous services provided by the University in an effort to burst this bubble. Of these services, the best is arguably the Bridge. The Bridge is more than a job application site. Its name truly suits its function as it connects Bucknell undergraduate students to Alumni, career-oriented campus events, and professional opportunities that reach far beyond the Lewisburg city limits. Even more so, the Bridge is easily accessible and […]
