By Laura Carlson ’12 After the Career Expo, we were delighted to hear some feedback from a Bucknell Alumni that presented at the fair. This anonymous individual pointed out some of the positive things they saw from students and noted some unprofessional tendencies students should avoid. We’ve outlined a couple of their suggestions below and incorporated some useful places to go to tidy up and prepare yourself for the next time you talk face to face with a potential employer. Next on-campus fair is January 31st! Resumes – If you’re going to a career fair, make sure you show up […]

Student Perspective: Summer without an Internship?

By Katrina Hefele ’13 For those of you who don’t have internships this summer…don’t freak out, it’s not the end of the world! However, that doesn’t mean that you can just sit on your couch watching cartoons all day long; take charge of your life and be productive! Are you interested in becoming a vet? Volunteer at a local animal hospital. Maybe your interests lay in the arts? Then you could volunteer at a local museum. The most important thing to do with your summer is to learn, whether you are being paid or not.  Explore your interests;  say you […]

Student Perspective: Leadership Lessons from Distinguished Bucknellians

On February 17th some fast-acting, motivated students got to attend a great panel in NYC entitled “Leadership Lessons from Distinguished Bucknellians.”  As I was checking out one of my favorite Bucknell blogs (Year in the Life…why didn’t they have this when I was in college?!) I was pleasantly surprised to read Tom  Zhu‘s  post about attending the event! We always love to hear feedback from students …especially when we don’t have to beg for it 😉 so I immediately had to share with all of you here (with Tom’s permission of course!). But before we get to his post I’d […]

Student Persepctive: The Early Bird Gets the Worm

Another great installment of advice from Brittany Waser ’12. As winter break is rapidly approaching (and I may have been counting down since returning from Thanksgiving break), most likely the last thing on your mind after finishing exams is resuming your summer internship or job search. While it may seem ridiculous to be thinking of where you will be in June amidst the freezing cold weather of winter, especially for the fast paced world of a college student who may not know what they are eating for dinner let alone what they will be doing in six months, it pays […]

Student Perspective: What can I do with this major???

By Katrina Hefele ’13 “Hi parents, how are you doing today? Good? Good. Oh yeah that’s right, I did have to declare my major today. No, I’m not an engineer, I chose to follow my own path and not become an engineer just because you are one. Why are you yelling at me? There are so many things that I can do with this major! What can I do with it? OK, let me tell you…” Have you gone through this conversation before? Well, I have and let me tell you that I was extremely glad that I work at […]

Student Perspective: 10 Tips on Networking and Internships

As you head into to finals and then off for winter break we wanted to offer you some tips on networking and internships by your fellow peer Brittany Waser ’12. Through my internship search and summer job search I have found that one of the most valuable tips I have received is the importance of networking. Students dread networking and keeping in contact with employers ( I know I did!), especially when the end goal of a job seems far off. Often intimidating and easily ignored, networking can be the key to unlocking a seemingly unattainable summer position. This is […]

Student Perspective – The BRIDGE: Bursting the Bubble

Bucknell has often been referred to as a bubble. It is a campus filled with brick buildings, athletic facilities and breath-taking views of the Pennsylvania landscape. Within these warm brick buildings are numerous services provided by the University in an effort to burst this bubble. Of these services, the best is arguably the Bridge. The Bridge is more than a job application site. Its name truly suits its function as it connects Bucknell undergraduate students to Alumni, career-oriented campus events, and professional opportunities that reach far beyond the Lewisburg city limits. Even more so, the Bridge is easily accessible and […]
