Go Big or Go Home

Online Tools and “Unreasonable” Programs Make Bold Ideas Happen From Idealist.org and posted by Scott Stadum. Big, bold ideas are incredibly inspiring, especially when they’ve come from you rather than the traditional institutions. I’m continually amazed how the internet can elevate an idea above the din, nurture it, develop, fund and help implement it, without input from that old school framework. From sites like Kickstarter to services like ChipIn and Fundable, taking a grand idea from thought to implementation isn’t far fetched, it’s a reality. The Unreasonable Institute is another noteworthy program with the goal of taking bold ideas for […]

Earth Day Internships from One Day, One Internship

Green Mountain Energy Internships By Willy Franzen on Thursday, April 22, 2010 So, I don’t think that I’ve taken note of Earth Day since elementary school… or last year when I wrote a post about New Leaf Paper. Yes, I may seem a bit ambivalent about a holiday started by hippies, but I really do care about the environment (so much though that I’m taking a few days off next week to head out into the woods and go fishing). Today is the 40th Earth Day, and I have to say it’s amazing how far we’ve come in fighting pollution. […]

In Honor of Earth Day: Here’s How to Find a Green Job

Happy Earth Day! Now here’s how to find a green job… Much of the world marks the 41st annual Earth Day today. Amid increased warnings about climate change and long-standing calls to make our air and water cleaner, many employers have embraced efforts to improve the environment as part of their corporate social responsibility agendas. Whole industries and career paths have emerged to control the natural resources and energy we use, creating a new category of jobs with the label “green collar.” Green jobs aren’t just for environmentalists; they require people with construction, science, and engineering backgrounds, as well as […]

Government Work Is the New Black

Uncle Sam needs YOU, he’s just not that good at showing it. As the economy shudders and shakes and civilian companies teeter on a tightrope of uncertainty, there is one sector standing strong and quietly growing: the federal government. The feds are the single largest employer in the country with more than 1.8 million civilian employees on the payroll. Salaries and benefits afforded to government workers are competitive with civilian careers, opportunities to advance are as good or better than in the private sector, and best of all, the government never goes out of business. Think you need to move […]
