Alumni, student launch sustainable energy venture

Eclipse Solar LLC, started by Craig Dwyer ’10, Eric Diamond ’09 and Drew Willey ’09, is a result of the School of Management‘s business venture competition. Dwyer and Diamond entered the contest with an eye on the $5,000 prize, and decided on a solar energy sales and installation venture and wrote a business plan focusing on government incentives as a selling point for solar energy systems. Dwyer and Diamond placed fourth in the competition and were inspired to pursue the idea. They brought in another partner, Willey, and set up shop in a 1,240-square-foot storefront in West Chester, Pa. Eclipse […]

The Benefits of Having a Mentor

No one ever said you had to go it alone: Daniel LaRusso had Mr. Miyagi, Rocky had Mighty Mick, Bill & Ted had Rufus, Happy had Chubbs, Wedding Crashers John and Jeremy had Chazz…who will you have? We’ve got some great ways to connect to alumni who are happy, ready, and willing to be mentors to YOU. Among B-Link‘s many different ways to connect with alumni, you can also use the  Career Center Search to specifically search for those willing to be mentors. We also have BisonConnect (which can only be accessed through myBucknell), an additional database of Bucknell alumni […]

Student Prespective: Bucknell Alum and CDC Creating a Dream Internship

By Holly Hodges `10 Every little kid has an idea, a dream of what they want to be when they’re older. While I had many possibilities that didn’t quite pan out, being the tooth fairy or performing on Broadway, one interest stuck with me. Growing up in Southern California, surrounded by amusement parks, I always had a strong desire to design rides. It wasn’t until I began my engineering courses at Bucknell that I realized someone actually has that dream job, and it was often engineers. This was when I decided to avidly pursue turning my childhood dream into a […]

Add Informational Interviews To Your Things To Do Over Winter Break

Many of you will take advantage of shopping, sales, sleeping, friends and food over Winter Break and I’d like to encourage you to take advantage of one more thing: Informational Interviewing. Perhaps your parents or friends parents, or friends have a job in a industry or at a company you are interested and now is perfect time to take advantage of any connection to ask for advice; you never know what may learn or where it may lead! Informational interviewing is essentially talking with people about their careers. It is a valuable career exploration technique which allows you to learn […]

Entre-Vous To Entrepreneur – Advice from Alumni

During Homecoming I had the great opportunity to attend a panel discussion that was sponsored by the 125 years of co-education celebration. It was an amazing panel with outstanding alumni–all with different points of view, industries, passions, but 1 thing in common: the desire and fortitude to become a successful entrepreneur. This panel should not have been missed but alas it was…by many. The information was so good that I decided that I should share some snippets. The best pieces of advise that I gleaned from this panel are as follows: Network: Take advantage and use the opportunities you have […]
