Things to do over the summer: Upgrade Your Bare-Bones LinkedIn Profile

LinkedIn could be one of your best job-search strategies right now, provided you have more than a bare-bones LinkedIn Profile. LinkedIn statistics reveal that nearly half of the 66 million+ LinkedIn members are from the United States and account for more than 42 percent of the global LI traffic. Only a little more than 5 years old, LinkedIn has become a hot social networking tool for […]

Cover Letters: Does Anybody Read Those Anymore?

By Jessica Holbrook Hernandez: expert resume writer, career and personal branding strategist, author, and presenter. In a world where many job applications seem to disappear into a “black hole”, job seekers often wonder if there is any point in sending a cover letter with their application. The answer is absolutely yes! An effective cover letter communicates to an employer why you’re specifically interested in the open position. With so many job seekers indiscriminately applying for hundreds of jobs, your application will automatically stand out if you can demonstrate that you truly have a personal interest in a particular position. Effectively […]

Inc. Article about SheFinds’ as seen on MTV Hired

Well somehow we missed all the buzz leading up to the premiere of MTV’s Hired series but it was just yesterday so I think you can cut us some slack. That being said, I did want to point out this article from Inc. Magazine, which features an interview with Michelle Madhok, founder of SheFinds.com. Michelle Madhok, founder of SheFinds.com, a New York City company that operates a shopping blog about fashion and beauty trends and deals, needed to hire an editorial assistant. “MTV Hired,” a new documentary series following recent graduates, wanted to film a small business that was hiring. Build Your Own Internship

For the second time in two days I am dating myself by my comments but I’ll do it anyway. Have you ever heard of the “Choose Your Own Adventure” books? Well they were great because throughout the book you could choose what the main character does and you could read the books over and over again, each time getting a new story. So they were creative and economical! In a similar vein the Wall Street Journal features an article today entitled “How to Create Your Own Summer Internship.” The article, subtitled “Creating Internships Out of Thin Air,” really caught my […]

Get Off Facebook and Get an Internship!

A lot of articles are now stating that employers are going to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and other social media outlets to search for viable talent. Believe it or not employers are not going to be banging down your door if you’re a passive job hunter like that. Internships are still the way to go if you want to get noticed. Internships not only help you to gain relevant experience, but […]
