With On-Campus Recruiting (OCR) in full swing we thought this post from Glassdoor.com Blog by Debra Wheatman was very pertinent. Enjoy! Good Luck! Schedule a Mock Interview! Come to Interview Tips (every Monday at 5pm)! In this article Debra explains, “It is normal and expected that you will be slightly nervous. The art of listening should not be diminished! Oftentimes, people tend to talk more when they are nervous. During an interview this can work against you.” She goes on to explain the other problem with failing to listen, “you may miss some important clues or red flags related to […]

From the bookshelves

I am not sure how much you’ve read to gather that I can be a supreme dork; if it’s not my love for NPR that shoots me in the foot perhaps it’s my obsession with the New York Times crossword or love of non-fiction – all told my hobbies put me in the realm of dork and this new reveal will do little to negate this: LIBRARIES! When I was little my favorite scene in Beauty and the Beast was in the library – all those books, the ladders to get to them, the cozy chairs by the fireplace – […]

Hitting with a spoon? Deal Breaker. And other Interview Do’s & Don’ts you can learn from toddlers

A fun article in honor of the first day of OCR You all should know by now that I LOVE NPR! Yup. I say it loud and I say it proud: I love NPR! I love it even more when I can use it for work (like we did when discussing Elevator Pitches). Well, courtesy of NPR comes yet another post from me, this time about preschoolers and interviewing. It really made me laugh. Then it made me feel bad for these little tykes. My preschool days were carefree bliss of making play dough (and of course taste testing it), […]

Teach For America Presentation with Kim Reynolds ’09

Come talk with Kim Reynolds (Bucknell ’09) about opportunities with Teach For America and her experience teaching in St. Louis. Tuesday, October 4th 6:00PM, ELC Walls Lounge In America today, a gap in academic achievement separates kids in low-income communities from their higher-income peers. Only eight percent of students growing up in poverty graduate from college by age 24, compared to 80 percent of students in more affluent areas. This limits life options, affects families and communities, and has significant social and economic implications for our country. It doesn’t have to be this way. We know it’s possible to give […]
