First Night, a fifteen year old tradition hosted by the Alumni Office, is held early in the Spring Semester as a celebration for the first-year class to mark the successful completion of their first semester and the beginning of their life-long journey as Bucknellians.
In preparation for the event, each first-year class selects class colors and a motto and designs a class crest incorporating these symbols. In addition, each residence hall floor decorates two pages with photos, drawings, and quotes to reflect their first semester at Bucknell.
The ceremony includes the presentation of the class crest, the submission of the hall pages into the class book, and the singing of the alma mater to President John Bravman and Professor Wendy Wright at their home. Prior to the ceremony, first-year halls will meet with members of the Alumni Board for dessert and discussion about being a Bucknellian.
