What Am I Supposed To Wear?! Defining The Lines For Interview Dress Codes

businesspeople-main_FullBusiness? Casual? Business Casual? It’s a fuzzy world out there when it comes to jobs and attire but when you are dressing for an interview or a job fair one thing is clear – Suiting Up is always the best idea. We’ve heard from many employers on what outfits make the best impression and it is always a suit. You don’t want to be remembered by an employer for what you wore so check out this quick review of the basics:

Men and Women

  • Conservative two-piece business suit (solid dark blue or grey is best)
  • Conservative long-sleeved shirt/blouse (white is best, pastel is next best)
  • Clean, polished conservative shoes
  • Well-groomed hairstyle
  • Clean, trimmed fingernails
  • Minimal cologne or perfume
  • Empty pockets–no bulges or tinkling coins
  • No gum, candy or cigarettes
  • Light briefcase or portfolio case
  • No visible body piercing (nose rings, eyebrow rings, etc.)
