I saw this in the Message Center and wanted to post it here as well:
Bucknell has been invited to participate in Davis Projects for Peace, a program for all undergraduates enrolled as of fall 2010 at any of the American colleges and universities in the Davis United World College Scholars Program. The projects deemed the most promising will be chosen and funded with a $10,000 grant given by Kathryn Wasserman Davis, internationalist and philanthropist. To date, Bucknell students have completed projects including: A Sustainable Water Solution for Tumaipa, Suriname; Bicycles Against Poverty in Uganda; How Much Does a Banana Really Cost in Nicaragua; Peace through Education in Guatemala; and El Porvenir Water Pumping Station in Nicaragua.
Student Projects should be:
* Designed by individual students or groups of students, and can include students in all classes, including the Class of 2011
* Planned to be implemented during the summer of 2011
* Should focus on innovative and practical action for fostering peace in the 21st century.
To be Considered, a student or group of students must prepare a written statement that describes the project (who, what, where, how) including expected outcomes and prospects for future impact (not to exceed two pages) as well as a budget (one page). Proposals should include pre-approval of all parties and organizations involved in the project. If the proposal relies on funding from an additional source, documentation of such funding must accompany the proposal.
Proposals that require travel to countries that are on the State Department’s current travel warning list will not be considered. The three page proposal should be submitted to International Student Services in Vedder 130 or electronically to paula.myers@bucknell.edu by January 20, 2011.
