We saw this in the Message Center through the Office of Civic Engagement and wanted to help spread the word as we also list this internship on the Bridge and have heard from many students about their great summer experiences with the Shepherd Internship Program.
September 29th | Noon – 1 pm | ELC Center Room (256)
Lunch provided – RSVP here
All are welcome to attend a panel discussion to hear from five outstanding Bucknell students who served in the Shepherd Internship Program this summer. The Shepherd Higher Education Consortium on Poverty arranges for about 100 students from member institutions to serve an 8-week summer internship in agencies and organizations dedicated to addressing poverty in some form. These range from urban homeless shelters to rural economic development programs, city health clinics to faith-based immigrant assistance services, tutoring programs for at-risk youth to legal aid offices. Students selected to participate agree to live on $14 a day, live with interns from other schools, and engage in guided writing and reflection activities.
Please join us to hear from:
- Megan Ganning ’18, an economics and environmental studies major, who gained experience as a Job Search Intern helping clients, mostly women and immigrants, find work through the Career Collaborative program in Boston, MA.
- Jackie Nicoletti ’18, a sociology and creative writing major, who served as a Neighborhood Research Assistant at Austin Voices for Education and Youth, an educational advocacy and empowerment program in Texas, that serves poor and migrant families.
- Ashley Peña ’19, a management major, who worked at the Harlem Children’s Zone in New York City this summer as a Program Assistant.
- Neil Ren ’17, an international relations and economics major, who served as a Client Engagement Intern at the Gateway Center, a homeless shelter in Atlanta, GA.
- Kate Sidlowski ’18, an international relations major, who worked as a Domestic Violence Legal Intern at the House of Ruth, a program providing shelter and services to those affected by interpersonal violence in Baltimore.
