Film/Media Studies Campus Theatre Internship

We know internships in Film & Media are hard to come by – especially locally – so when we saw this post in the Message Center we wanted to share it as well to make sure you didn’t miss this great opportunity!

Film/Media Studies is now accepting applications for the unique Bucknell-Campus Theatre projection/exhibition internship. The application deadline is December 16th.

The internship focuses on film and digital cinema projection with the goal of developing real world skills in the art and craft of superior film presentation. Interns will be trained to project 35mm film and DCP; after an extended apprenticeship, interns will work independently as projectionists for Bucknell screenings at the Campus Theatre. Additionally interns will assist with a range of duties associated with the coordination of Film/Media Program screenings detailed below. This internship provides valuable experience to those interested in careers in moving image exhibition and film/media production. The internship is open to any major. No former experience is necessary though Film/Media Studies coursework (ENGL 130/ENFS 130 Introduction to Film/Media Studies or ENGL 253/ENFS 253 Introduction to Film/Media Production) is strongly recommended.

A few more details:

  • The internship requires 6-10 hours of work per week, which will begin on campus and move primarily off campus (to the Campus Theatre) as the internship progresses.
  • Students earn 0.5 non-traditional study course credit per semester and the internship may be repeated up to four times total.
  • Candidates expressing an interest in a contiguous two semester internship are preferred.
  • Interns will be expected to complete assigned readings and meet weekly with faculty members overseeing the internship during the preliminary stages of training.
  • A culminating academic project, in the form of a study or essay that engages in film exhibition and projection histories and/or practices, is required.
  • Interns will also be evaluated based on their professional duties at the Campus Theatre. Evaluation will be submitted in the form of a grade (AF).
  • The Film/Media Studies program seeks dependable and committed students with a passion for cinema and a curiosity about the industry.
  • The position requires a student who is able to work independently, is skilled in attention to detail and is comfortable working with mechanical equipment and under high pressure situations.

Interested students are requested to submit a cover sheet, a resume, a recent transcript, and a letter of recommendation from a Professor or previous employer. Please submit applications electronically by December 16th to Rebecca Meyers.

The Film/Media Studies Program presents several weekly public film screenings at the Campus Theatre (http://bufilm.blogs.bucknell.edu). Organized by the Film/Media Studies Program’s Academic Film Programmer, weekly screenings include a curated Tuesday evening series alongside Film/Media Studies course screenings. Films are projected on a range of formats, including digital (DCP) and 35mm archival film. Coordinating these screenings involves all aspects of film exhibition: curatorial research, booking titles, producing promotional materials, event planning, hosting visiting filmmakers, and delivering state of the art projection.
