vladWelcome back! Hopefully everyone has had some time to disconnect, rest and have fun this break, so that we’re fresh and ready for the latter half of this semester. This week’s peer picks will be focused on field of law. In general, we tend to regard law as being a very specialized field. Compared to other fields, it does require more specialized knowledge, but there is still much versatility within the field. The two positions presented this week, one internship and one full-time job, seek to show how varied the possibilities within the field are.

  1. Neufel Scheck & Brustin, LLP Paralegal – apply by April 1
  2. New York State Attorney General Office Business Operations Internship – apply by April 3

The first peer pick is a full-time position as a Paralegal with Neufel Scheck & Brustin, LLP, a small New York-based law firm that focuses almost exclusively on civil rights litigation. If you are passionate about law and are contemplating a career as a lawyer, particularly within civil rights, working as a paralegal will allow you to see exactly what a career in this field would look like. A paralegal assists lawyers with the day-to-day office tasks, but also with substantive work on cases, such as reviewing and analyzing evidence, assisting with depositions, editing briefs, communicating with clients and helping prepare for trial.

Working as a civil rights lawyer for public interest involves working on many important cases, such as wrongful convictions, police brutality and other forms of official misconduct. Neufeld Scheck & Brustin’s mission is to help achieve justice for individual clients, while also using these cases to effect widespread change.
