Peer Picks: Wolf Hollow Wildlife Rehabilitation Center & Congressional Quarterly

If you noticed a hiccup in our Peer Picks it’s because our trusty picker Sophie ’16 is studying abroad this semester but have no fear because Vladimir is here to pick up where Sophie left off. So without further ado here is the first edition of peer picks by Vladimir Stroe ’16, CDC Marketing and Social Media Specialist:

1. Wolf Hollow Wildlife Rehabilitation Center Internship

2. Congressional Quarterly Internship

Tired of the Bucknell Bubble and urging to work in the the great outdoors? Join the small team working at Wolf Hollow in Washington, next to the small town of Friday Harbor, in their efforts to carry out wildlife rehabilitation! Applying to this unpaid internship can definitely be the start to a very interesting summer experience. Just imagine all the fun stories that you will be able to tell your friends!

Wolf Hollow currently cares for roughly 500 animals, however, none of them are actually wolves or other large carnivores. Even though most of their interns have a background in biology, wildlife management, veterinary medicine, veterinary technician or environmental education fields, an interest in wildlife and willingness to learn are all that is necessary.

Working at Wolf Hollow is going to be a learning experience as well, with hands-on experience working with many different wildlife species and practice in handling techniques, diets, food preparation, feeding methods and assisting experienced rehabilitation staff.

So if you want to spend your in the beautiful San Juan Islands saving animals this internship is for you! All applications to the internship program, which include a current resume and completed application found at wolfhollowwildlife.org have to be mailed by Feb 28th to:

Wolf Hollow Wildlife Rehabilitation Center
Attn: Education Coordinator
PO Box 391
Friday Harbor, WA 98250

Did you ever dream of being on the forefront of political journalism and helping to bring the latest news on Congress? As an intern for Congressional Quarterly, you won’t be making copies, fetching coffee or answering phones. Working as an intern for CQ means collaborating with editors and having the opportunity to write stories and obtain clips that will help advance your careers. One thing that I found awesome is that many of the past interns have returned to CQ as full-time staff, which means that during this internship you’ll have the opportunity to gain experience and make a good impression to a potential future employer.

This full time position during the summer entails covering committee markups and hearings, attending policy events around town or conducting legislative research.

Applications are due by February 28th and consist of a cover letter, a resume and you may be asked to submit at least two writing samples to the hiring manager upon request. In the cover letter, you should detail an interesting experience or difficult decision you’ve faced while reporting.
