The Bucknell University Undergraduate Executive Internship Program engages highly motivated students who are in search of a way to expand their education outside of the classroom and apply their skills toward the development and success of the University. Interns have the unique opportunity of interacting directly with senior staff through internships in several Administrative Offices on campus. Interns are currently working in the Office of the President, Office of the Provost, Office of Endowment and Investments, Division of Communications, Division of Development and Alumni Relations, Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations, Office of the Dean of Engineering, Division of Athletics, Office of the Dean of Students, and Office of Library & Information Technology.
Responsibilities as an intern vary depending on the Office, but interns are expected to work 8-12 hours per week on projects or research for their Office. Through the program interns hone their professional and interpersonal skills, meeting with members of the Operations and Management Group (OMG), the Deans, other University administrators and external University stakeholders to learn about specific areas of interest such as fundraising, finances, public speaking, and law. This past semester, interns met with and participated in professional development programs with a range of administrators, including President Bravman, the Dean of Students Susan Lantz, Senior Legal Advisor Wayne Bromfield, General Counsel Amy Foerster, Chief Investment Officer Chris Brown, the University’s nutritionist and dietician Tanya Williams, and counselors from the Career Development Center.
Interns in the program do not fit a specific mold. They are dynamic and motivated individuals who are eager to push themselves academically and in extracurricular activities. As leaders in the classroom and on campus, interns strive to better themselves and Bucknell University.
Working closely and collaboratively with administrators and executive staff, they have the unique opportunity to experience mentorship and guidance. Many interpersonal and professional skills interns acquire through work in their offices, such as drafting professional reports and memos, interoffice decorum and interacting with senior administrators, are applicable to a variety of different fields and careers. In addition, interns gain a great understanding of the University and how it is managed at the top level through their daily tasks and luncheons with senior staff. They also enjoy the opportunity to create relationships with other interns, who like themselves, are bright leaders dedicated to the betterment of the University.
