Sophie Hattery ’16, CDC Marketing and Social Media Specialist, BRIDGE Peer Pick of the Week:
1. Nestle Purina Petcare Company Supply Chain Internship
2. Mass. Electric Construction Co. Industrial (MEC) Internship
My first peer pick this week is dedicated to Nestle Purina Petcare Company’s supply chain internship. If you have a love for pets and are looking to spend 10 weeks of your summer in St. Louis, Missouri, you should look to spend your time at Nestle, the world’s largest food company. The company stresses the importance of training, constantly learning, and growth in the workplace.
Anyone equipped with a strong interest in supply chain, operations, industrial engineering, or business fits the mold of the ideal candidate for this internship. Interns undergo an extensive supply chain training providing information on sales, reporting/metrics, business program details and an overview of the corporate logistics department. After the training, interns will proceed to manufacturing training by participating in visiting the Davenport and Clinton plants. During the plant visits, they will gain a more profound understanding of the manufacturing process of pet food, transportation, warehousing, raw materials and quality assurance. From this point forward, interns will be completing an assigned project which will be formally presented to a leadership team.
Some intern responsibilities are that you must develop knowledge, awareness and understanding of the Consumer Products and PetCare industries including understanding the consumer and or pet owner, knowing Nestle Purina brands and the competition, and identifying and analyzing segment trends. Moreover, you will be responsible for gaining exposure to all the internal and external supply chain including plant logistics, warehousing and transportation, customer team supply chain management, Order Revenue Management and the customers. Furthermore, you will also cultivate internal and external working relationships that provide exposure to multi-disciplines, account management and customer teams. Finally, you will work on specific assigned projects that focus on delivering results against our business plan. Various projects consist of performing analyses on automated customer scheduling systems, developing weekly reports to track On Time and Fill Rates, analyzing internal operations methodologies to improve performance/costs, analyzing out-of-stocks opportunities within Nestle Purina and performing deep-dive analyses on the internal forecasting/promotional tool. If all of this appeals to you, apply by Friday, November 29th on the BRIDGE!
As for my second peer pick this week is for anyone pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Construction Management, Construction or Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology or related engineering fields. Mass. Electric Construction Co. Industrial (MEC) is one of the nation’s premier electrical contractors that provides complex and large-scale electrical construction and maintenance services. If you are interested in markets such as those in renewables, power, transmission & distribution, water/wastewater, life sciences, data center, communications & ITS, security, transit/light rail and traction power across North America, then this paid internship is the place to be!
The internship endeavors to expose students to all aspects of an electrical specialty contractor. However, do not be intimidated by all your responsibilities! If you take on this internship, you will get a sponsor who will monitor, profess, and be available to answer questions. Also, you could have the opportunity to be rotated through different departments and functions including field engineering, estimating, and engineering to gain an understanding of different aspects of the electrical contracting business.
A general idea of daily tasks would involve developing work plans, quality monitoring and tracking, field installation sketches, and coordinating material take-offs/pricing and preparation of estimates for bid submission. Become actively immersed in the engineering field and apply by Saturday, November 30th on the BRIDGE!
