Have lunch with Ali Miller ’87, Principal of the New Visual and Performing Arts High School in the Los Angeles United School District – the second largest school district in the nation – and learn why having a vision is essential to successful leadership.

Ali Miller ’87 became the principal of the Visual and Performing Arts School, Los Angeles in its inaugural year, 2012. This is no ordinary high school. Ms. Miller is one of three principals who oversee three intermingling high schools with students who chose to come to the visual and performing arts high school from schools all over Los Angeles in the new public school choice program designed by LAUSD.

There is much to accomplish this year: the school still needs a name (hopefully by May 1st), now has a mascot – Go Tigers!,the principals responsible for their own schools must create a coherent experience for all students, and a new school culture will be emerging.

Ms. Miller’s vision as a leader is that the Visual and Performing Arts engages students and therefore definitely correlates to student achievement.  Public schools need to be much more than test scores. Come hear her discuss how she is creating and following a vision to create success for her students and herself.

Space is limited, please RSVP to cdcpeer@bucknell.edu or sign up on the BRIDGE

Co-sponsored by Student Leadership Programs and the Career Development Center.
