For those of you who don’t have internships this summer…don’t freak out, it’s not the end of the world!
However, that doesn’t mean that you can just sit on your couch watching cartoons all day long; take charge of your life and be productive!
Are you interested in becoming a vet? Volunteer at a local animal hospital.
Maybe your interests lay in the arts? Then you could volunteer at a local museum.
The most important thing to do with your summer is to learn, whether you are being paid or not. Explore your interests; say you like art and want to work in the art field, which of the many aspects of the art field would you like to work in? Check the Alumni Directory in B-Link to see if there are any alumni near you that are in an area of interest to you. Invite them for coffee (and buy it for them!) for an informational interview. Or, see if you can volunteer or job shadow for people in those different fields so that you can narrow down your interests. It’s ok if you want to have a non-paid experience this summer, as long as you are learning, since that is the most important thing! If you want to pair your volunteer experiences with waitressing or working at the mall so that you can earn some money as well that is great…you make money, gain experience and look super productive and driven.
Just don’t think that you are a failure and you’re life is over if you didn’t get an internship this summer! You can still do just as much and work on building your resume with other important learning experiences.
Remember, the summer is a time to learn…and the CDC is still open throughout the summer 🙂
