Did anyone else see How I Met Your Mother last week? Well I caught and (sadly) could only think of work when they introduced the great new phrase “Graduation Goggles,” and I thought I had to figure out a way to incorporate it into the Career Insider so here goes.
In case you missed the episode here is the recap (of the part that reminded me of work): Marshall wants to quit GNB because he hates it but after he makes up his mind to quit the next day at work isn’t so bad at all so he wonders if it he should stay. The group then discusses that Marshall is a victim of “Graduation Goggles” and the point, as highlighted by Robin, is that “you can’t trust graduation goggles. They are just as misleading as beer goggles, bridesmaid goggles and that’s just a bulky outdated cell phone in his front pocket goggles.”
So what is my point you may ask? My point is that I know graduation brings mixed feelings and emotions and I know there will be a lot to miss about Bucknell but there is also a lot to look forward to!
Here are just a few things that came to the top of my head:
- You will be probably moving closer to civilization which means new places to eat, shop and be merry
- Staying connected has never been easier (with FB, B-Link, Twitter, Skype and, let us not forget good old fashioned, email!)
- You won’t have papers anymore (well most of you)
- You won’t fear tickets from Public Safety
- You can always come back to campus for Homecoming, House Party, Arts Weekend, Reunion…or any time!
So make the most of your remaining time here and everything campus has to offer – like the Career Development Center!!! – but don’t get depressed that you will soon be leaving (didn’t your parents tell you that you were only allowed to stay for 4 years?).
Most importantly stay positive and remember that Bucknell is yours for a lifetime (and so are our career services)!
