Fall Back Your Clock; Spring Forward your Internship Seach

Daylight Savings always gets me thinking. I wake up the morning after in a fog of confusion…wondering if the time that is showing on my alarm clock is the “right” time and inevitably get on the track to that deep question…what does time really mean? I won’t bore you with this existential argument that I go through but the point it is I got thinking this past weekend and I’m wondering if anyone else is in the same boat.

Perhaps you are thinking about getting in gear for your internship search? It is a great idea to get a head start and have answers ready for the onslaught of parental grilling that may (or may not) happen over Thanksgiving.

So here are a few suggestions to help get you started:

Figuring Out What You Want to Do

If you aren’t sure about your career goals and want to start figuring it out, the break can be a great time to explore your options. One of the best resources for this is the very people around you; talk to family, friends and acquaintances about what they do. You can utilize B-Link, Bucknell’s database of alumni and another great tool to do informational interviewing and networking as well. If you don’t have access yet – read more on how you can get it or ask us here in the CDC!

Industry Research

The CDC has several industry specific handouts as well as some great information on the CDC website. The Vault is another excellent resource for Bucknellians to research industries as well as the employers within those industries. Be sure to take some time to explore the Vault.

Resume Refining

Get your resume up to speed. The CDC has handouts and samples of cover letters, resumes, and other job search tools.

Set up an appointment

As always the CDC is here to assist you in every stage of your decision-making, research, internship/job search…you get the idea…Stop in M-F between 8:30 – 4:30, email: cdc@bucknell.edu or give us a call (570-577-1238) to make an appointment to speak with a career counselor…you won’t regret it (like all that stuffing you are destined to eat over Thanksgiving!)
