Last Week of Classes – 5 Easy Tips to Maintain Your Search

We’ve turned the calendar to December and welcomed (with unopened arms) the cold weather; it’s darker earlier and there are actually starting to be some parking spaces, it must mean one thing: the semester is coming to an end! I know you all have a lot to think about… but these few suggestions will help maintain your job search momentum while you complete final assignments and exams.

1. Talk to your professors. Let them know what you are looking for in either an internship or full time job. Ask for their contact information so you follow up and keep them posted on your progress.

2. Send a quick email to your previous internship or part time employers. Extend good wishes of the season and give them an update on your job/internship search. Ask for advice.

3. Update your resume. If you had an internship or part time job this fall, now is a good time to incorporate your most recent accomplishments. You can stop by the CDC M-F from 1:30 -3:30 for a resume critique or schedule an individual appointment!

4. Mark your calendar for the INTERNSHIP FAIR! Held on campus on January 26th

5. Stop by the CDC to discuss your plan and time line or for any other reason/questions you may have…We are here to help! We will continue with the Quick Question period through Dec. 17th as well as be open for our regular 8:30-4:30 hours if you’d like to schedule an appointment (except for Dec. 14 & 15th when our offices will be closed)

It is never too late to start the job search. Remember that the majority of employers hire close to the time they need someone to start. The exceptions are employers in finance, engineering, accounting and consulting. As a December grad, this may be the best time to begin your search.
